Can we create a mobile app using Shopify?
Yes. With Ampify, you can turn your Shopify store into a branded Android and iOS shopping app without coding or rebuilding your existing store.
Which plan includes the mobile app?
Native Android and iOS apps are included in the Plus plan.
I already have a mobile app. Can you update it instead of publishing a new one?
Yes, in most cases. Your app is published under your own Google Play and Apple developer accounts, so our team can release our app as a new version of your existing listing. You keep your app's name, reviews and ratings, and your current users get it as a normal app update.
Before we start, our team reviews your current app and accounts to confirm the update is possible. If it isn't, for example because the original app's signing key isn't available, we'll publish your app as a new listing instead. Contact our support team to get started.
Will the app change my theme?
No. The app connects to your store through a Shopify app embed, which you switch on in the theme editor. Your theme code is not edited. To stop the app's storefront features, switch the app embed off.
How long does publishing take?
Publishing usually takes about 1 to 2 weeks in total:
- We build your app (2–3 days). Our team creates your app and sends it to you to test.
- You review and approve it. Try the app and let us know if you'd like any changes.
- We submit it to the stores. Once you approve, we submit your app to both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
- Apple and Google review it (1–7 days). Each store reviews your app before it goes live. Apple's review time can vary.
How can I enable push notifications?
You can turn on push notifications in a few clicks from the PWA & Mobile App admin:
- Open the app in your Shopify admin and go to Push settings.
- Switch push notifications to Enabled, then save.
That's it. When customers install your app, they're asked whether they'd like to receive notifications on their device. Everyone who taps Allow will start receiving your notifications.
Can I customize my mobile app design?
Yes. Your app uses your Shopify theme, so you can customize it from the Shopify theme editor, just like your online store. Change your layout, colors, banners, sections and content however you like, and your changes appear in the app.
Your app's name, icon and splash screen are set when we publish your app.
What's the difference between a Shopify mobile app and a Shopify PWA?
Both give your shoppers an app-like experience with your branding, and both show your live store.
The main difference: a PWA is installed straight from your website, with no app store, no developer account and no review, so it can launch the same day. A mobile app is published on the App Store and Google Play, takes about 1–2 weeks, and needs the merchant's own developer accounts.
